New Sherlock Season Four Production Details Revealed

"Did you miss me?" may be a question that's on our minds for a good while yet!
Lead star Martin Freeman has this week revealed new details regarding filming schedules for the upcoming fourth season of the BBC's acclaimed detective drama Sherlock. A loose adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes series of novels, the show stars Benedict Cumberbatch in its titular role, Freeman as John Watson and Amanda Abbington as the latter's newfound spouse Mary Watson.

While in many ways it shouldn't come as a real shock to seasoned fans, the news that production on Season Four has once again been delayed still isn't something which will alleviate any concerns about the waiting time between seasons. Indeed, viewers were forced to wait nearly two years to discover the truth behind the resurrection of Holmes, and many would argue that the revelation itself hardly justified the elongated tension and speculation. Freeman recently informed The Guardian that "the [original] plan was to film [Season Four] in the Autumn but apparently that's fallen away." If execs Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss hope to garner a more positive critical reaction to their next run of murder mysteries and intellectually-stimulating cases, especially now that fans' patience is set to potentially be tested for another twenty-four months, then the pair will need to endeavour to bring their A-game with their latest trio of scripts.

Judging by all of the evidence, Sherlock will return for its action-packed fourth season in January 2016.
