The Force will be strong with the world's favourite Wookie once again in 2015.
Peter Mayhew will apparently reprise his role as Chewbacca in Walt Disney Pictures' upcoming science-fiction blockbuster Star Wars Episode VII, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Taking place thirty years after the events of 1983's Return of the Jedi, the narrative of the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel will feature a trio of new heroes along with a plethora of returning characters from past instalments of George Lucas' iconic galaxy-spanning saga.
Before you don your prized Wookie mask and commence an all-manner of uncanny growls and incomprehensible retorts, though, we'd advise that you take the news with just a pinch of salt (once you've managed to remove the loose Wookie hairs from the substance, of course), since The Hollywood Reporter are citing a couple of unnamed sources rather than Mayhew himself at present. Abrams has confirmed that R2-D2 will be amongst the roster of returning characters in Episode VII, which probably means that Anthony Daniels' C-3PO is back on board too, but with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher all rumoured to be reprising their roles as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia Skywalker respectively, it's hardly a great stretch to speculate that Han's faithful partner-in-crime will return to the pilot's seat of the Millennium Falcon in eighteen months' time. Expect to hear a lot more on the project as a whole in the next month or so once filming gets fully underway (believe it or not, a few minor scenes are already being filmed as we speak, albeit with a minimal number of central cast members involved!).
Star Wars Episode VII will depart hyperspace and land in cinemas worldwide on December 18th, 2015.
