Glee Season Five Episode Count Reduction Confirmed

Rachel, Kurt and the New Directions' latest setlist is cut short by two episodes...
Fox have today announced an alteration in the episode count for the fifth season of their musical-comedy-drama Glee. Headed by Ryan Murphy, the show was originally set to air a twenty-two episode run in 2013/14, but this number has now been trimmed to twenty episodes, meaning that Season Five will wrap up on May 13th rather than May 30th.

Although it's often difficult for us to gauge Glee's domestic success here in the UK, anyone who has kept track of the ratings it has been amassing on Fox of late is unlikely to be surprised by this production development. More intriguing still are the implications the studio's move could have for the already-commissioned sixth season, with the worst case scenario being that its episode count is reduced to a measly ten or fifteen instalments. While such a reduction would come as a massive shock to fans, though, on the basis of Game of Thrones and The Newsroom's success with a more concise format in recent years, it just could be the breath of fresh air that the series has been in sore need of for some time now.

Glee continues on Sky1 with the remainder of its fifth season's instalments this Spring.
