20th Century Fox have today revealed a new television trailer for their upcoming fantasy movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The follow-up to 2011's critically acclaimed franchise reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes will move the narrative forward by a decade, with Caesar and his army of intelligent primates now forced to come into contact with the last remnants of the human race in the midst of a civil war which threatens to tear their newly-established colony apart.
We have a hunch (feel free to place bets now) that Fox are saving their major promotional push for Dawn until after their other much-vaunted Summer of Film 2014 blockbuster, X-Men: Days of Future Past, lands in cinemas, and rightly so. Once the aforementioned ensemble flick has been and gone at the box office, the time will be ripe for Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and a host of incredibly-animated monkeys to lay siege to our screens and every other entertainment medium imaginable during the weeks leading up to the sequel's launch. The aforementioned TV Spot does more than enough to ensure that our anticipation levels remain steadily high (and rising by the day, for that matter). Better yet, July is a relatively quiet month for the entertainment industry, presenting Dawn with the perfect opportunity to kick-start the hype train for future Planet of the Apes outings (indeed, Fox confirmed last month that a third entry is already in the works!)...
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes conquers cinemas worldwide on July 11th.
