New The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Guest Star Announced

Game of Thrones' very own Brienne of Tarth steps aboard the two-part franchise finale.
Lionsgate Studios have today announced a new cast member for their upcoming two-part adaptation of Suzanne Collins' third The Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay. Set just days after the events of last November's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Part 1 sees Katniss Everdeen reunited with her oldest friends as each of the thirteen districts of Panem unite to overthrow the tyrannical Capital, ending the reign of the seemingly omniscient President Snow in the process.

As if this much-anticipated franchise finale wasn't already packing an impressive enough ensemble with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Natalie Dormer and the late and great Philip Seymour Hoffman attached, it has now picked up another major guest star in the form of Gwendoline Christie. Christie will doubtless be best known for her role as the loyal warrior Brienne in HBO's fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, but from now on, she'll be sporting the colours of District 13 (a region of Collins' fictitious dystopian world which we'll be introduced to later this year) as a rebel military leader. Originally, Christie's character was set to be portrayed by Lily Rabe, yet Rabe encountered scheduling difficulties due to her work on a production of Much Ado About Nothing, and to be frank, we're perfectly enamoured (if not moreso than before) with her replacement!

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 sews the seeds of revolution in cinemas worldwide this November 21st.
