Sony Pictures have this week announced a revised UK release date for their impending superhero blockbuster The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as well as several details on the timeline of the franchise's future instalments. Set months after the events of 2012's controversial reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, the follow-up sees Peter Parker's web-slinging alter-ego battle Electro, Rhino and the Green Goblin, only to risk losing everyone he cares about in the process.
You'll find the updated UK release date below, but here, we're going to cover what's been said regarding the next few years and Spidey's role within them. Contrary to popular belief, The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will apparently not launch in 2018- instead, it'll be replaced by either Sinister Six or Venom (both of which were announced as spin-off instalments for the series last year), such that the release timeline for the superhero saga between now and 2019 will look something like this:
- THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2- April 16th, 2014
- THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3- June 10th, 2016
- SINISTER SIX- TBC 2017
- VENOM- May 4th, 2018
- THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4- TBC 2019
Quite what Sinister Six and Venom will hold for the franchise's ongoing narrative arc is hard to ascertain at this early stage, but no doubt we'll have a better idea of what to expect once The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has launched here in the UK in four days' time.
