Mario Kart 8 UK Release Date Announced

Lo and behold, a fully-fledged successor to Mario Kart Wii is finally about to arrive...
Nintendo have today announced the UK release date for their impending kart racing video game Mario Kart 8. Set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo WiiU home console, the sequel to both 2009's Mario Kart Wii and 2011's Mario Kart 7 will feature classic competitors such as Mario (just in case you hadn't already guessed that one) and Peach as well as newcomers such as the Koopa gang and Metal Mario.

Unless you've been living under a Mega Mushroom-shaped rock for the past decade or so, we're fairly sure that you'll know the drill in Mario Kart by this stage: you race your rivals, picking up a few power-ups along the way and (ideally) crossing the finish line first (we always have trouble with that last part, for some unknown reason!). Perhaps we're missing something here, but judging by screenshots and details regarding the eighth instalment's format, Nintendo's mantra for their latest sequel is something along the lines of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", and while they aren't wrong, we can't imagine they'll be scooping in too many plaudits next month if Mario's first kart-based WiiU outing is essentially just Mario Kart Wii(U)...

Mario Kart 8 retails exclusively for Nintendo WiiU this May 30th.
